About Urban Hijau
Urban Hijau is more than just a park or garden. We are a living and breathing example of organic sustainable urban agriculture, right in the middle of the city. As a planned sustainable social enterprise, we use permaculture as a means to unite people, generate profit and preserve the planet simultaneously.
“Grow What Grows”, “Start small, get it right and scale up” and “Integrate rather than segregate” are some of the statements we are always seen to use and practice. At Urban Hijau, Activating Sustainability by rebuilding wholesome food systems with local integration is critical to move forward and make a long standing impact.
Since our founding, Urban Hijau has trained hundreds of participants on moving to a more sustainable lifestyle, and hosted dozens of volunteer groups to gain a firsthand experience with urban farming. Our site has received over 100 tonnes of food waste from the local community which it has transformed into compost, a precious resource for the soil.
